The photograph was taken from the support aircraft as the Chipmunks crossed the Bering Strait from Provideniya in Russia to Nome in Alaska with the mountains of Alaska in the background. They departed Russia on Friday, 13 June 1997 and arrived in Alaska on Thursday, 12 June after crossing the International Date Line!

Tony is flying the lead aircraft, code letter ‘C’ with his very good friend, Sqn Ldr Ced Hughes flying ‘H’ in echelon starboard.
